As with all of Banks’ work, this painting has been in progress for a period of several years. For Banks, the slowness of his painting is purposeful; a firm and polite refusal of the lightning-speed production that is now expected of contemporary culture.

Anthony Banks, born 1988, Cheltenham, UK, lives and works in London.

Anthony studied at the University of Brighton (BA Hons) and completed his MA in painting at The Royal College of Art in 2016. During his MA, Anthony won the student prize at The Marmite Prize for Painting and has recently been awarded a residency at Bon Volks Art Studio in Margate, UK.
